Product description
Orbit IP II employs 13.56 MHz NFC technology for secure communication with contactless cards, fobs, wearables and smartphones. As a Power over Ethernet (PoE) device, power as well as communications go through a standard network cables. Optional mains power is also available. Orbit IP II is a one-box solution that can be plugged directly into a computer network with a running web server, without the need for additional controller hardware. It is successfully used across schools and universities, medical facilities, leisure centres, offices and industrial sites.
Building your own solution
The reader is designed for system developers who are looking for robust hardware that is easy to integrate and deploy. Through its built-in TCP/IP network connectivity, Orbit IP II runs as a standard HTTP web client. This makes it easy to integrate with no low-level programming required. Common web languages such as PHP, ASP and HTML can be used to build a complete, powerful access control or time attendance system from a web page.
Hardware options
Customise your reader by choosing from the following add-ons:
- Relay – an optional relay allows triggering of electric locks and latches. The fitted component is TE IM03GR.
- MicroSD card – if there is a need to record card swipe data in case of occasional web server downtime.
- Power – Orbit IP II is supplied as a PoE-compliant device as standard, but it can optionally be mains powered using an adaptor.
- Waterproof casing – an IP65 rated enclosure for outdoor applications.
- Digital inputs – optional terminal blocks for voltage and current controlled inputs.
- Display – see the original Orbit IP reader if you do not need the display option

Documentation
Orbit IP II does not come with a Software Development Kit, unlike our other products, as it works using an easy-to-use proprietary command set. This is described in the Programmer Guide available to download below. Commands relating to the LCD are available in a separate document.
